The main washing and drying symbols:

 

1. Washing in general

The garment can be washed both by machine and by hand. The figure inside the symbol corresponds to the ideal washing temperature (see also point 4).

 

2. Do not wash

This garment cannot be washed by hand or in the washing machine. This symbol can be found, for example, on leather garments.

 

3. Hand wash

Hand wash only. The garment can be damaged if washed in the washing machine.

 

4. Wash at 30°C

The garment can be washed at a maximum temperature of 30 degrees.

 

5. Delicate wash at 30°C and gentle spin

The garment is washed at a maximum temperature of 30 degrees and the spin drum spins at the lowest speed.

 

6. Wash on a delicate or wool cycle at 30 degrees

The garment is washed at 30 degrees with the cycle for delicates or for wool. Without centrifuge.

 

7. Bleach with oxygen

A garment that can only be bleached with oxygen products.

 

8. Bleach with chlorine

The garment can be bleached with chlorine products.

 

9. Bleaching not allowed

This garment cannot be bleached, as this may cause discoloration or damage to the fabric.

 

10. Dryer generally allowed

The garment can be tumble dried without restriction.

 

11. Tumble dry low

The garment should be tumble dried on a low setting only.

 

12. Tumble dry at high temperature

The garment can be dried at a high temperature.

 

13. Not suitable for tumble drying

The garment will deteriorate if it is tumble dried.

 

14. Iron generally allowed

The garment can be ironed.

 

15. Iron at low temperature

The garment should be ironed at a low temperature. High temperatures can damage the material.

 

16. Iron at medium temperature

The garment can only be ironed at medium heat.

 

17. Iron at high temperature

The garment should be ironed at a high temperature. With these materials the iron must be really hot, if you want to eliminate creases.

 

18. Do not iron

The garment cannot be ironed at either low or high temperatures. Otherwise the item of clothing may be damaged.

 

19. Iron without steam

The garment should be ironed without steam.

 

20. General drying

The garment should be air dried in the way you prefer.

 

21. Vertical drying

The garment should be dried by hanging it on a string.

 

22. Vertical drying in the shade

The garment should be dried in the shade hanging from a rope. Direct sunlight could damage the material.

 

23. Horizontal drying

The garment should be dried lying flat on a flat surface. If it is hung it deforms.

 

24. Horizontal drying in the shade

The garment should not be hung up, but dried flat and in the shade. Otherwise it will warp and direct sunshine may ruin it.

 

25. Drying in the shade

The garment should dry in the shade. This applies, among other things, to black clothing, which can discolour under direct sunlight.

 

26. Wet drying

The garment should not be spun or wrung by hand or tumble dried. It hangs still dripping.

 

27. Wet drying in the shade

The garment should not be spun or wrung by hand or tumble dried. It should be hung in the shade still dripping.

 

28. Wash cold

The garment should be washed at a temperature below 30 degrees. Use detergents suitable for cold washing.

 

29. Do not wash by hand

The garment does not become clean if you wash it by hand.

 

30. Do not wring

This symbol is found on Japanese textiles. For export reasons, it is also increasingly encountered on our garments.
